The Collins Caddie Connection
My family and caddying go back a long way.
My grandfather, Pat, started caddying at Winged Foot at a young age in the early 1950s and was eventually hired by Winged Foot as a Golf Assistant in 1957. After 20 years working odd jobs at Winged Foot he became the Caddie Director in 1977. He would hold on to this position for 28 years becoming a legendary figure at one of the most iconic golf courses in the world on his way to being inducted into the Caddie Hall of Fame in 2001.
My dad, Bobby, followed a similar path. He began caddying at Winged Foot in 1973 with his two brothers. He would caddy for my grandfather for over 20 years and looped for the likes of Jack Nicholas, Don Meredith, Evel Knievel, the King of Morocco, and many others.
My dad didn’t intend on becoming a Caddie Director until he picked up his father’s phone in 1989. On the other line was the Westchester Country Club’s General Manager and they were looking for a new Caddie Director. He interviewed for the job and wound up getting it, a position he would hold for over 32 years!
And then there’s me…
Some of my earliest memories are visiting my dad at WCC and my grandfather at Winged Foot. I started caddying for my dad as soon as I could carry a bag and spent many summers looping with my brother, cousins, and friends. While I didn't follow the path and become a Caddie Director, this project allows me to continue my families connection to golf and more specifically caddying.
With each purchase, I hope these candles can evoke emotions and memories connected to golf just like this. So tee up an order, follow along and share the game of golf with Caddie Candles!
